Course overview
Refresher Advanced Fire Fighting (Ref-AFF) is a 1-day DG Shipping-approved refresher course conducted through classroom lectures and intensive practical training at the fire fighting ground and smoke chamber. It is mandatory for all seafarers holding an Advanced Fire Fighting certificate as per STCW Convention Regulation VI/3 who need to revalidate their certificate for continued service. The course is designed to refresh and enhance competencies in controlling fire fighting operations onboard ships, including fire prevention, stability considerations, organizing fire parties, inspection and maintenance of fire detection and extinguishing systems, and managing casualties.
The training ensures officers and crew remain proficient in leading emergency response teams during major fire emergencies at sea. Upon successful completion of the mandatory exit examination, the certificate is issued as per DG Shipping & STCW Guidelines and is valid for 5 years, essential for CoC/CDC revalidation and continued employment on all types of merchant vessels.
