Course overview

The BSc in Nautical Science program is an undergraduate degree program that prepares students for a career as a deck officer in the merchant navy or in the maritime industry.The program focuses on providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles of navigation, seamanship, ship stability, marine engineering, and maritime law. Graduates of the program are qualified to work as deck officers on ships of all sizes and types, including cargo vessels, tankers, passenger ships, and offshore vessels.

Application process

1 Online Application & IMU CET Registration

Candidates must apply online for B.Sc Nautical Science and register for IMU-CET entrance exam. Fill academic details, upload 10th & 12th (PCM) certificates, pay application fee. You will receive admit card & application ID from institute / IMU portal.

2 IMU-CET Entrance Exam

Candidates must appear for Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test (IMU-CET). Exam covers Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, Aptitude & General Knowledge. Qualifying IMU-CET is mandatory for admission to DG Shipping approved B.Sc Nautical Science course.

3 Personal Interview & Screening

Shortlisted candidates after IMU-CET will be called for personal interview, psychometric test & aptitude assessment at the institute. Communication skills, leadership quality and interest in merchant navy career will be evaluated by the selection panel.

4 DG Shipping Medical Test

Candidates who clear interview must undergo DG Shipping approved comprehensive medical examination as per Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000. Eye sight 6/6, color blindness test, and physical fitness is mandatory. Medical will be done at DG approved centers in Mumbai.

5 Final Merit & Sponsorship Letter

Final merit list is prepared based on IMU-CET score, 12th PCM percentage, interview performance & medical fitness. Selected candidates must pay non-refundable booking amount to confirm seat and will receive sponsorship letter from shipping company for on-board training as Deck Cadet.

6 Joining & Document Verification
🎓

After sponsorship, complete education loan formalities if required before joining date. On joining day, carry original documents - 10th/12th marksheet, IMU-CET rank card, passport, medical fitness certificate, sponsorship letter and passport size photographs for verification and course commencement.
