Course overview
The General Purpose Rating (GPR) programme consists of a 6-month pre-sea training course followed by 6 months of structured shipboard training. After completing the training, students are eligible for employment with any shipping company globally.

Age Limit
Between 17.5 to 25 Years as on date of commencement.
Not Eligible Boards
12th via Open / NIOS / Distance Learning are NOT eligible.
Educational Qualification
- PCM in 12th: 50% Min
- English in 10th/12th: 50% Min
- Maths & Science in 10th: 50% Min
- Max 2 years gap
Physical & Medical Standards
- Height: 160 cm Min | BMI ≤25
- Speech & Hearing: Normal
- Eyesight: 6/6 unaided & no colour blindness
Application process
Candidates must apply for the GP Rating course through online application form and pay the prescribed application fee. After successful submission, further instructions will be provided by the institute's admissions office.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a personal interview at the Office or online. The interview is conducted to assess communication skills, confidence and suitability for a career at sea.
Candidates shortlisted after the personal interview must undergo a comprehensive DG Shipping approved medical examination in Mumbai as per Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000. Details will be shared by the admissions team.
The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of eligibility, personal interview and medical fitness. Selected candidates must pay a non-refundable booking amount within the given deadline to confirm their seat.
Upon receipt of the booking amount, the candidate will be issued an official sponsorship letter along with course details, joining date and other necessary instructions.
Candidates availing education loan should complete all loan formalities before the joining date. On the day of joining, carry all original documents including educational certificates, passport, INDOS and passport-size photographs.
